Katharine’s Shocking Confession

Kat10 Katharine McPhee’s Shocking Confession
June 21, 2006

It’s the painful secret behind Katharine McPhee’s famous face.

The "American Idol" sweetheart is dropping a bomb in the new People magazine, bravely revealing the torment she’s kept hidden for years — a dangerous battle with bulimia that nearly destroyed her brilliant voice.

"She was throwing up seven times a day," People’s Jamie Bufalino revealed of Kat’s struggle with weight, which she claims started as a teen. Bufalino told us that McPhee credits "Idol" with saving her life. "When she got to ‘Idol,’ that’s when she got serious," he said.

Katharine sought out help at an LA area eating disorder clinic.

Meanwhile, millions of "American Idol" fans, and even the judges, had no idea of Katharine’s struggle throughout the competition.

The songstress was at war with her demons and even hinted about her torturous relationship with food to our Terri Seymour the night before the finale. "I was always trying to lose weight and then I was obsessed about the food," she said. "As soon as I stopped worrying about the food, the weight just started coming off."

Katharine revealed she’s dropped 30 pounds and gone down three dress sizes the healthy way, thanks to getting help and the support of her parents and boyfriend, Nick Cokas.

In addition to People, McPhee is also Teen People’s next covergirl. "I’m very honored that people say I’m a role model for young girls," she admitted.

Catch Kat in Teen People June 30, and in People magazine this Friday.

First of all… HOLY CRAP! I never saw this one coming… Seriously! I was in total disbelief, I mean, I look at Katharine and I don’t see someone with that kind of problem. All I see is a perfectly beautiful young lady blessed  with an angelic voice and amazing personality. Although I know that she did have trouble with weight issues during the past but I never thought it was that serious. It’s surprising really but I’m pretty happy that she’s doing fine now, I do hope she doesn’t relapse. But aside all of that, I am so damn proud of her! I’m going to give her credit for admitting her eating disorder in the public. She was brave enough to do that, even though she pretty much knows that many people will be out to get her. No doubt about that, I for one read at a post from the AI boards from one of the posters saying "She’s just using that to get her sales up" and "Kat eats, Kat Pukes" it’s infuriating! Ugh! God! When will they ever stop? Honestly, I could care less what these bashers have to say about Kat but when they make a statement about her bulimia problem and makes fun of her, that is way out of proportion. In this situation, you have to give Kat the respect she deserves whether you’re a Kat fan or not. This is a serious problem to begin with and you can’t make a joke out of this one. Show some decency people!

As for Katharine, I admire you for what you did. It simply shows how strong of a person you are both physically and mentally.  I do hope you realize that you’re fans will always be there to support you no matter what. Have faith in yourself and keep on Believing. Will go through with this together. (",)
